Egoist Accountability v Modest Impunity

The need for Sokovia Accords and

vision of Tony Stark

We all hear about how Tony gets beaten up and thrown left and right by Thor and Hulk (though I remember that he made both of them run for money) and how he has an ego the size to match Ego, the living planet

How, Moral, leadership and combat tactic wise, he is no match for Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow.

But looking at it this way…….

1) Financial and flight equipment and accommodation as well as PR were likely hired and paid for by Tony Stark. it is also likely Tony Stark who paid for all the damages created by Hulk, argued with all the politicians about the need for the Avengers, created all the jets, weapons and headquarters used by the Avengers.

2) Technically, the avengers defeated the alien army in the first avenger movie but Iron Man was the one who saved the city (Nuclear Missiles)

3) In the second avengers movie, scarlet witch influenced the Hulk to go berserk. Iron Man was the one who stopped him and likely paid for all the damages, medical bills and lawsuits. Iron Man and the Hulk probably took all the blame for the damages done and deaths suffered instead of Scarlet Witch. As far as we know, Scarlet Witch was blameless for unleashing a Angry Beast whom she knew was capable of incredible damages, possibly resulting in thousands of casualties.

4) Naturally, at the end of Civil War, when Tony Stark discovered that Captain America who fought him, caused War Machine to become a cripple, tore apart the Avengers team who he argued and fought the politicians for, for so long was actually protecting the murderers of his parents, the Winter Soldier.

5) Tony Stark tried to protect the Scarlet Witch from going to prison and instead tried to keep her in a nice cushy Mansion. Of course, this was considered as Tony betraying the Avengers by Captain America.

Sam Wilson should at least know and have informed Captain America about Ant Man’s struggle to at least be a good father to his daughter. Naturally, Captain America still brought Ant Man along and basically now turned him into a fugitive from law.

6) Captain America who is actually a soldier on active duty and widely known as an American Soldier is actually launching operations in countries all over the world, causing damages and injuring dozens of citizens and was not even hiding the fact. He leaves SHIELD to face the consequences and also stole government property aka, bird costume, fighter jets, breaks out his friend out of prison, e.g. Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, etc etc.

7) Captain America believes politicians to be capable of corrupting the Avengers, therefore, he believes that the Avengers should basically be his personal army and he will decide what to do with them. Even the individual countries or UN should have no rights in saying whether they should or should not be allowed entry. I would say HIS ego is bigger than that of Tony Stark.

8) We say he has a big ego but quoting a phrase from another Superhero movie, “With great powers come great responsibility.” or as General Ross said about losing the Hulk and having no idea where he went to. We said that he is egotistical to claim responsibility for all damages for Sokovia. But remember my dear friends, this is the ego we as a civilians need because an egoist accountability is far more better and safer than a humble and modest impunity, where we are snatched the right to live by our very protectors.

While I believe that Ultron is not really anyone’s responsibility, Tony Stark is right to follow the accords. The accords likely includes taking close custody of individuals like Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Just imagine another Scarlet Witch blowing up the things and killing civilians just because she is a novice, I am pretty sure that this is the thing you will definitely not want to happen.

Steve has his points and he may be right but what he lacks is vision (not the android) that Tony has. Stark is futurist and the best example is him foreseeing Thanos arrival since 2012 battle of New York. Steve may be right in his own grounds of friendship but Tony is right pragmatically on a greater level or larger scale.

Tony is not a man to crawl over the wire to let one man walk but he is the man who will cut the wire so that everyone can walk. He is a human thus driven by emotions and is the true representative of us as he is the only superhero in this bigger universe who represent us as mortal, normal and prone to wound human. It may seem that he is keeping himself in the centre throughout the story but it is we who are the cynosure of Tony's side of story. Tony is fighting against his team for us and if this motive of Tony is termed as ego, I will readily accept the egoist accountability than modest impunity of Steve, where he all cares about his brainwashed friend.
